When a company starts hiring people, it must register with the AVS authorities to ensure the correct payment of the social security (1st pillar) to the goverment. Each canton has a cantonal authority acting as the control authority to ensure the companies are properly registered. It is the company’s choice to join a public AVS authority or a private/public institution like FER-CIAM in Geneva for example.
Many organisations in Switzerland now allow online registration to ease up the administrative process for new entrepreneurs. For example FER-CIAM Geneva has extended e-services implemented.
Sadly not available in English. The document needs to be completed online, printed, signed and returned to FER-CIAM
Switzerland is known for being a tax-efficient country to start a business.
